COVID-19 Business Support Program Announced Today to Assist Businesses Impacted by the Recent 3 Day Lockdown
The Tasmanian Premier, Peter Gutwein, has just announced financial support packages for businesses impacted by the three-day lockdown that occurred over the weekend.
- Southern Tasmanian Business Support Program
This support program is offering one off payments to businesses in Southern Tasmania affected by the COVID-19 related lockdown which was required between 6pm Friday, 15 October to 6pm Monday, 18 October.
Support is available for businesses that during the lockdown period were required to be:
- ‘Closed / not permitted’ ($1,000 Grant), or
- ‘Open – with restrictions’ ($750 Grant)
Additional payments of up to $10,000 are also available to those businesses that can provide evidence of loss of perishable goods purchased between Wednesday 13 and Friday 15 October 2021 and intended for use/sale during the three-day lockdown period that had to be discarded as a direct result of the lockdown.
Applications Open 2pm Thursday 21 October 2021 and remain open until 2pm, 1 November 2021.

The State Government also announced earlier in the week a number of payments available between both the State and Federal Governments to individual employees impacted by the snap three-day lock down.
- Covid-19 Disaster Payment – Southern Tasmania Lockdown
The Australian Government has activated the COVID-19 Disaster Payment for eligible workers affected by the Southern Tasmania lockdown.
Tasmanian workers who are eligible will receive $750 if they have lost 20 or more hours of work, and $450 if they have lost between 8 and less than 20 hours of work.
Eligible Tasmanian’s can get ready to claim now by creating a myGov account, if you don’t already have one. The claims will open on Friday 22 October. Affected Tasmanian’s will be able to claim financial support for the period of 6pm Friday 15 October to 6pm Monday 18 October.

- Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment
Tasmanian workers may be eligible for a $1,500 lump sum payment if they cannot earn an income because they are required to self-isolate or quarantine during the latest COVID-19 outbreak in Southern Tasmania.

- Pandemic Isolation Assistance Grants – Southern Tasmania Lockdown
Grants are available to support low income, casual and self-employed workers who have lost income due to an ‘inability to work caused by the lockdown in Southern Tasmania’.
The amount depends on the size of your household: $250 per adult, $125 per child, with the maximum capped at $,000 per household.
